Hoevebier – Farm Beer

The Beer

Waterloo Récolte is a traditional Belgian farm beer, in the same family as saisons from Hainaut or the white beers of the Brabant region.

All the ingredients can be sourced from the fertile fields around Waterloo and in the near future the hops for this beer will be harvested from the brewery’s own hop field. If you want to taste the result of that innovation, order a fresh Waterloo Récolte at the Ferme de Mont Saint-Jean, the site of a brand new microbrewery where the beer is brewed.

Waterloo Récolte is a genuinely quaffable beer. You can taste the slightly tart touch provided by the wheat, accompanied by malt flavours and a pleasant hop bitterness that never becomes dominant. It is a beer to give you courage for the fight.

Alongside the Waterloo Récolte this regiment includes a Triple Blonde, a Strong Dark and the Cuvée Impériale.

The Ferme de Mont Saint-Jean is an historic square farm building built around a courtyard at the edge of the Waterloo battlefield, a stone’s throw from the Lion monument.

The farm was the site of a field hospital during the 1815 battle. It is a nice historic touch that the recipe for Waterloo Récolte is based on the beer drunk by the soldiers in 1815.

Waterloo Récolte is a pale blond beer with a cloudy veil underneath a cloud of white froth.

    Serving Temperature

    5°C / 41°F

    Serving Glass

Waterloo Récolte is poured into an elegant, tall, slender glass with a waist to hold it safely by. This glass shows off the colour to its best advantage and ensures lingering aromas and a long-lasting frothy head.

      Character, Tastes & Aromas

Waterloo Récolte sits somewhere between a white beer and a blonde.

It is a thirst-quencher with surprisingly fresh and fruity aromas and a striking, slightly tart touch of wheat complementing the malt and a delicate hop bitterness.

        Culinary

This summer beer makes a perfect match with summery dishes, a salad for example, or with classic brasserie dishes.

        Keeping and Storage

This beer will keep on tap for up to nine months. Due to the specific characteristics of this beer there is no point storing for any longer than advised by the brewery.
