Brewer Grégory Verhelst swapped his home town of Doornik (Tournai) for the Gaume region at the southernmost tip of Belgium. Now his regional beers, made in the artisan way, have made inroads in their own country and far across its borders.
Rulles strives to produce powerful, but at the same time very quaffable, beers. This brewery fits perfectly into the new wave of innovative microbreweries.
The brewer is very choosy when it comes to the choice of ingredients – he uses malted oats from Scotland, aroma hops from the USA and other carefully selected ingredients.
Grégory keeps track of beer trends, but, at the same time, has both feet firmly planted in the soil of the Gaume. If the best product is created by adhering to tradition, then there is no need for compromise.
His beers ferment in open fermentation basins, just like they have always done. Why is this? Grégory Verhelst is convinced that by using this production method, his beer will develop more delicate aromas.
This stubborn and idiosyncratic approach translates itself into the glass.
The Rulles Triple is a fully-fledged degustation beer with plenty of body and a beautiful hop bitterness. This characterful blond is able to stand up to zesty and spicy dishes.
The brewery’s range also includes the Rulles Blonde, Brune, Estivale, the Cuvée Meilleurs Voeux Christmas beer, the Grande Dix winter beer, the Saison XIII and a pils.
Finally, there is the Rulquin: a blend of a stout and an Oude Geuze from Tilquin.
La Rulles Triple is a top-fermented beer that re-ferments in the bottle.
La Rulles Triple is brewed with pale ale malts and pils malts; Warrior, Cascade and Amarillo hops, yeast and water from the Forest of Anlier (a nature reserve).
