Beer Style

Strong Belgian Blond (Pale) Ale

The Beer

Arabier is considered to be a real thirst-quencher, with a taste that gets worldwide appreciation by a broad community of beer connoisseurs.

The Flemish name is more than ironic, as beer (as any form of alcohol) is mostly banned/prohibited in the entire Arabic world. Nevertheless its thirst-quenching properties mean that a cool and refreshing Arabier would to be welcome in any scorching desert! At least if we would have any say on the matter…

Arabier can also be interpreted/translated as “beer for macaws” (Ara being the Dutch word for macaw) or even “beer made for, by or from macaws”, whatever floats your boat actually. Hence the label depicting a flamboyant and colourful macaw drinking and enjoying a beer.

A pure and true malt beer, hopped with flower-hops regionally grown in Poperinge, brewed since 1984. What is special is about this beer, is the dry-hopping, (typically and mainly known as an English rather than Belgian styled process) where part of the hops lager with the beer for some time.

The hops used in the dry-hopping part are Nugget, a sturdy hops variety that gives Arabier most of its bitterness…

      Character, Tastes & Aromas

Bitter, aromatic beer with a balanced and smooth overall taste. The taste of alcohol is only slightly noticed, although one tastes and smells hints of candied citrus peel, apricot and banana.

The taste is strongly dominated by the hops. Non-apparent carbonation. It has a very estery character with a dry finish and a sourish hint at the back.

        Culinary

A great beer to pair up with spicy Asian dishes, curries or grilled meat.

        Keeping and Storage

Arabier keeps for about one year. Aging the beer doesn’t do it any good, as time affects its typical hoppy bitterness.
